Symone Williams-Yamamoto story 2
My own experience with virtual relationships is different because I prefer to interact with others in person. I have friends online and I find that they are more fleeting than my real friends because there isn't a lot that keeps us together. For example, I've met friends online that live across the country, and we run out of things to talk to because we essentially just update each other on our lives. I've never developed a romantic relationship online, but I would assume that it would be difficult to trust one another. To reference my midterm presentation, the TV show Catfish shows the capabilities of deception within romantic relationships that only exist online. I think that will always be a fear with our generation, and it will be interesting to see how the next generation will approach cyberspace relationships because they were born in a virtually social world, and may be less likely to be afraid of all the deceptions within a virtual reality.
1) the jumanji movie: The characters in the movie get to be avatars in a virtual world and explore their own abilities in another world.
2) US Callister episode of Black Mirror: The consciousness being uploaded to a video game reminded me of the this chapter because they can exist i the virtual space without their physical body.
3) The invention of the cochlear implant: I feel that this event relates because it allows deaf people to hear in the same way the blind woman is sighted in this space.
These stories juxtaposed to Techgnosis has been a whirlwind because I've had to completely shift my thinking about mystic information. Davis had a very historical approach; which directly contrasts the fictional representations of technology by Yamamoto. Also, for this to be a translated book, the vocabulary is very simple. This makes it an easy read, but that allows more room for thought and imagination in the sense that we can apply it to oneself and really envision the possibility of these stories.
