Yamamoto Story 3 - Jason Komoda
I think using AI to make our lives easier is super cool but a little scary at the same time. It’s crazy to think that as each generation passes, each generation basically lives differently as technology keeps producing better services for them. So right now we live in a pretty technological society but it could be nothing compared to how our grandchildren and great grandchildren will live. Maybe AI will eventually take over the society and everything will be AI based, who knows? People may say that if everything is AI based, then will people actually experience real world experiences or are we just going to be living in a virtual world where humans are inferior to AI and AI basically runs the world instead of humans? Well, if that’s the case then thats just another example of how life changes as generations pass. It’s not that they’re going to be cheated since AI will probably end up doing anything and everything for them, that’s just how life will be for them. People say that living in virtual worlds disconnect you from reality, but eventually these virtual worlds ARE going to be reality and we can’t really say if it’s a good or bad thing because the quality of life just naturally changes overtime which means the definition of life changes as well.
Google Assistant’s phone call feature is one example of artificial intelligence breakthrough. The voice and reaction of the AI sounds so realistic and natural that even the “real” people on the receiving end had no idea that they were talking to software code. This gives us hope and excitement that in the near future we can actually use these AI to handle many phone calls, especially for customer support or businesses that need to deal with calls very frequently. Autonomous cars are another big deal in the world of artificial intelligence because when you think about it, driving is already such a complicated task for some people. People already get into tons of accidents so imagine AI that can drive a car perfectly safe and avoid more accidents than humans do. However, many driver jobs would eventually be taken away from people because there would be no such need for drivers anymore since our cars would basically drive themselves. Lastly, even though it’s not AI related, the use of VR to treat PTSD is absolutely incredible for bettering people’s lives. It allows soldiers or anyone with PTSD to finally be able to face their fears in a natural and non-forced virtual environment. By doing so, they speed up their recovery process and can live a more happier, stress-free life. I noticed in all of these examples, we are using technology and artificial intelligence to make our lives easier which is a pretty cool idea because about 100 years ago, our grandparents had no such technology to “make their lives easier” or help them save some time on certain tasks.
